Tour Description

The west route of Damavand has unique qualities that other Damavand routes don’t. On our path to the foothill, we’ll go deep into the protected area of Lar. We might meet some rare animal kinds such as leopards, bears, hogs, and golden eagles. Nomads spread their tents in Damavand fields. These are people who move with seasons and live in tune with nature every day.

The west route is the hardest one to ascend after the northern route. For one thing, the conical shape of Mount Damavand will put shade on the west side until noon, which will make us feel colder. Another characteristic of this route is that the path will get harder to ascend as we continue our trek. The closer we get to the summit, the steeper the slope will become.

It’s interesting to point out that the west route starting point is at the highest point compared to the other routes. That means that the vertical length to the summit is the shortest on this route. The bad news is, it’s not possible for porters to carry the bags with mules on this route. Therefore, unlike the other routes, mountaineers have to carry their belongings to the shelter themselves. The Simorgh shelter is located at 4100 meters height in which we’ll spend two nights. This shelter has all the needed services, such as rooms, drinking water, and restrooms

Description

We don’t have any special physical activities planned for this day. After the introduction session, we’ll head to Damavand from Tehran. In the morning session, the professional mountain guide will tell all the necessary technical tips and the trekking schedule to ensure we don’t face any issues on our ascent. After the session, we’ll get a 4-hour ride to enter the protected lar area on the west side of Damavand. We’ll have lunch at a cozy restaurant on our way there. We’ll be spreading our wings for a little while in the vast fields of Lar at 3400 meters height. As it gets dark, we’ll head to rest in our tents to be prepared for the ascent the next day.

  • Starting Altitude: 3400 m
  • Upward Trekking Distance: 4.87 km
3.57 km from starting point to the shelter and 1.3 km for acclimatization

Description

At 7 am with our backpacks on our shoulders, we’ll take our first step toward the Damavand summit. The path will start with a slope of about 10 degrees and continue to get steeper as we climb up. After about three hours, we’ll arrive at the Simorgh shelter located at 4100 meters height. Along the route, the Damavand summit is right in front of us, and as we turn our head, we’ll see the beautiful Lar Dam lake. After settling at Simorgh camp and having our lunch, we’ll climb up to 4600 meters height for acclimatization. We’ll spend an hour there before coming back to the camp. Acclimatization on the west route is even more crucial because the height difference from our camp to the summit is more than the southern route. We’ll have a light dinner and sleep tight to be well-rested for the hardest day of our ascent the next day.

Description

Today is the day to use all of our strength to conquer the highest volcanic summit in Asia! So, the day will start at 6 am. After having a light, nutritious breakfast, we’ll slowly ascend to the summit. It will take about 6 hours for us to reach the peak. However, the absence of the sun in the west route and the low temperature will make the first part of our ascent challenging. Also, the steep slope and the sand skiing path towards the end of our ascent will make the last part difficult! However, standing on top of Mount Damavand’s peak will wash away all these obstacles! We’ll take a few photos to remember this worthwhile ascent! After spending about half an hour on the peak, we’ll descend from the same route to the Simorgh shelter and spend the night there.

Highlights

  • Starting Altitude: 4100 m
  • Downward Trekking Distance: 3.57 km
  • Average Slop: 19.4 %
  • Driving Distance: 140 km
  • Ending Altitude: 1400 m

Description

We’ll wake up with the joy of conquering the highest point in the Middle East. Watching the scenery around will be more pleasurable than the previous days with the peace of mind from our successful ascend. We’ll pack up our belongings and head to where we started. Then, we’ll cross the dirt road at Lar fields again and start heading towards the south of Damavand. The Persian traditional medicine put a bold emphasize on natural hot springs and their healing qualities. Therefore, we’ll soak in a few to rest our bones and let go of all the obstacles we had crossed. Then, we’ll have our lunch in a cliff restaurant and drive back to Tehran. We’ll arrive in the city at 9 am.
