How to Prepare for Climbing Damavand Mountain?
How to prepare for climbing Damavand mountain? Well, that’s one of the most important questions to ask when you decide to step into the unknows of a new...
The Relaxed Ascent to Damavand
We’ve designed the 5-day Damavand tour package to ensure the highest ascend success rate. We’ll be ascending from the southern route, which is the easiest due to its gentle slope. There is no need for professional gear and tools climbing Damavand from this route. During this tour, all the backpacks and belongings would be carried by local porters and mules up and down the trek. That means you don’t have to take anything while hiking.
The height change will happen slowly day by day. Moreover, there is a specific acclimatization program for this tour to ensure AMS (acute mountain sickness) does not occur to anyone in the group. The package has a 5-day schedule to ensure there is less pressure on mountaineers. Also, that leaves more time scheduled to enjoy the scenery and nature of Mount Damavand. The conical shape made of ash and lava flows gives Damavand mountain a unique and extraordinary natural beauty.
We’ve fitted a reservation day into the package to ensure the tour does not get canceled due to sudden weather changes. That also helps with acclimatization. Plus, we’ll be spending three nights at 4200-meters height, which will prepare mountaineers who would like to conquer summits of +6000-meters height.
In conclusion, this package is the safest and most ensured way of conquering the East’s highest mountain peak, Damavand!

We’ll head from Tehran to Rineh village. Rineh is a foothill village on the south side of the Damavand summit. It hosts many mountaineers during the high season. Our professional guide and a driver will pick you up in Tehran and drive on a beautiful 3-hours road to Rineh. However, the guide will hold the introduction session beforehand to get to know you and tell you all the technical tips for the journey. The day will begin in the morning. We’ll be having lunch at a local traditional restaurant. In the end, we’ll spend the night at a local guesthouse in the village.
Highlights
We’ll enter the Damavand territory around 8 am. From the entrance of the protected area, we’ll get on 4WD vehicles approved by Mountaineering and sport climbing federation and drive about half an hour. Then, we’ll arrive at the base camp to start our Damavand trek from 2950 meters’ height. At this point, we’ll give our backpacks and belongings to local porters to put on mules and walk into the Damavand route with our lightest tones. We’ll walk about 4 hours on a gentle slope to get to the camp 3 after hiking up 1200 meters.
We’ll be having a fresh warm meal after our hike to bring joy back to our bodies and souls. Afterward, to acclimatize, we’ll be hiking up 200 meters. Then, we’ll come back to the camp after a shortstop. We’ll rest our bones after having a light dinner to be fresh and rested the next day and enjoy the rest of our journey.
Highlights
4.61 km from Base Camp to Camp 3 and 0.5 km for acclimatization
In case the weather conditions are not stable, this day will provide an opportunity to stay at camp 3. We can sustain our energy for the hike the next day. During this day, we’ll explore the camp surroundings and climb up to 4700 meters for acclimatization. The beautiful scenery, memorable images, the extraordinary views of Lar lake and Lar field would be the main activities during this day. Also, staying the night will ease our hike the day after as we’ll get in tune with the height more slowly. Light meals and earlier sleep time are also to prepare us for the next day.
Highlights
This is the peak day! All previous days have been preparing us for this day. We’ll wake up at 5 am. After having a nutritious breakfast, we’ll start to climb up a steep slope to conquer the summit. During the ascent, we’ll see a magnificent icefall at 5100 meters height. Climbing up the cliffs, we’ll start seeing the vapor coming out of sulfur opening of Damavand, which will entertain us on our way. After about 5 hours of trekking, we’ll get to the Damavand summit at 5610 meters. You’ve now officially conquered the Middle East highest summit.
Afterward, we’ll take some memorable snaps of the peak and the world underneath it. We’ll then descend to camp 3 from a sand skiing path. It’d take about 3 hours for us to enjoy our warm meal with the spice of our pride from reaching the mountain peak! Celebration and rest will fill the rest of our day.
Highlights
We’ll give our backpacks and belongings to the porters again. Then we’ll spend our last minutes at the foothill of Damavand. We’ll head to the base camp from the same route we climbed up. On our path, we’ll see a diverse range of plant species. Also, the more we trek down the trail, the clearer we’ll see the summit from afar. We’ll ride on the dirt road again. This time, to retain our energy and rest our bones after this long journey, we’ll soak in the warm natural hot springs of Damavand. In the end, after having lunch, we’ll be driving for 3 hours to come back to Tehran.
